LESSON DESIGNS

With over fifteen years in Education, and most of that teaching Electives, I am often writing my own curriculum and developing my own lessons to be used by myself and my team. When designing a lesson or a project for students, it is important to me for it to be visually appealing as well as organized, to help eliminate any confusion by students.

Black History Presentation

This project is designed to touch a number of skills throughout. Targeted areas include research skills, Black History, and Presentation design.

Students take two weeks to pick a topic, research about it, and finally learn about how to design an effective presentation. The project is finished with a presentation presented using Google Slides.

Presidential Campaign Design

This project was designed to be completed in teams of 3-4 students, although it could be completed with two students as well.

Students were tasked with determining a candidate for president, and then creating several items to help promote this person’s campaign. This was a way for us to tie together the presidential campaign of 2016 and Graphic Design. We got a variety of campaigns designed, and it was really fun to see what the students came up with. One of the great things about this project is it could be adapted for other subject areas too, the items created would just need to be adjusted. An example would be in a US History class. Students pick one of the candidates from the presidential campaign being studied, and then are tasked with creating materials that advertise the political stances on the chosen candidate. They can also create materials that reflect the time period to demonstrate technology and communication abilities during that time period.
